Here we are, on the eve of an ending and a new beginning, or, at least, it feels that way when the calendar turns over. I hope over the next couple of days you are able to take some time to reflect on the passing year and set intentions for the one to come.
2022 flowed into 2023 with massive transitions in my life as we uprooted ourselves and relocated, leaving work and community behind to risk building again. My mantra for 2023 was “non-urgency” as I needed to slow down, let go, take time for rest and to rehab a shoulder injury and to attend to some minor burn out. I am moving into 2024 feeling excited, eager and ready to dig in, build my massage and coaching practice and explore my new community. I have decided that “finding my groove” is my mantra for 2024. Do you have a word, intention or mantra you wish to flow into for the coming year? I would love to know!
Here is a fun way to think about it. Imagine each year as a rose and ask yourself what were the beautiful blossoms of the past year that you cherished, what thorns did you encounter and what are the buds of possibility that you want to nurture for the coming year?
When considering your New Year’s goals (I refuse to call them resolutions because that leaves me feeling like something needs fixing) reflect on what worked well over the last year and continue to build on your strengths while assessing what didn’t work well and what might require redirecting. Small and attainable steps towards healthy habit changes that can be maintained with consistency are more effective than committing to unsustainable goals for the longterm.
This week I put together a post on the Wellness Warrior Blog inviting you to take 3-5 days to do a reset and to support the detox pathways in your body after the feasts and fun of the holiday season. This is a great way to ease into the New Year with a little cleanse and may even inspire the way into adopting more healthy eating habits for your future self. I am a big fan of “if you get off track, bring it on back”!
