Feeling chilli?

For the winter holidays, I thought I would gift thee young adults on my list with a home made jar of spicy hot chocolate for fun! I made some batches a little spicier for the chilli lovers and a little milder for those on the sweeter side. Either way, this recipe hits in the middle and is sure to warm you up on a cold winter day! Adjust the chilli flakes for more or less spice or omit all together for a basic hot cocoa blend.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup pure cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup coconut or cane sugar
  • 1 – 2 tsp red chilli flakes (depending on how spicy you like and the potency of your chilis)
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 3 tbsp semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water or milk of choice

Directions:

  • In a smoothie blender or regular blender, pulse chilli flakes then add remaining ingredients and pulse until the mix is a fine powder and can dissolve quickly in liquid.
  • Transfer powder into a glass jar or air tight container and evenly disperse chocolate chips into the mix.
  • When ready to prepare, add 3 tbsp of cocoa mix to 1 1/2 cup boiling water or heat milk of choice in saucepan and add mix to dissolve.

For gifts, I placed the cocoa powder mix in a mason jar then topped with the chocolate chips and added a cinnamon stick within the jar as well.
