Some like it hot but viruses do not!
Fire cider has gained popularity over the last few years as an immune boosting elixir and natural remedy for cold and flu symptoms and prevention. There is no one specific recipe for this concoction as it is up to the maker to add their desired ingredients. However, there are some ingredients that are consistent from one recipe to the next. Ginger, garlic, onion and hot peppers are a must! From here you can add other immune boosting spices and herbs as you see fit such as cinnamon, turmeric, horse radish and herbs such as oregano, rosemary and thyme. Some people add both lemon and oranges or either or and after letting this infuse in apple cider vinegar for at least 4 weeks, most people finish it off with honey to taste. One thing is for sure, it has kick!

Ingredients:
- Start by sterilizing a 1 litre glass mason jar then gather together the following ingredients to place within.
- 1 small white onion, sliced
- 1 cup fresh horse radish root, grated
- 1/2 cup fresh ginger root, grated
- 1/4 cup fresh turmeric root, grated
- 10 cloves garlic, minced or crushed
- 1 jalapeño pepper, sliced with seeds
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tbsp whole peppercorns
- 1 tbsp dried rosemary
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 1 tbsp dried thyme
- 1 medium lemon, sliced
- Pure apple cider vinegar to cover solids
- Honey to taste after infusion is done
Directions:
- Place all ingredients in sterilized mason jar and pour apple cider vinegar to top, covering all ingredients. Secure lid, plastic lids are best but if you are using a metal lid, place a piece of parchment over the top then screw lid on.
- Place in a cool, dark space for 4 weeks, shaking occasionally or turning up-side-down to mix up contents.
- After 4 weeks, strain vinegar to remove all solids.
- Add honey to desired taste.
Take 1 – 2 tbsp in water during cold and flu season to ward off infection and boost immunity or take several times a day if cold and flu symptoms are present.
