Soothing Anti-inflammatory Salve

Soothing Anti-inflammatory Salve

Jar of Body Butter

From bites to burns, give this salve a turn!

If you are looking for an all natural salve for mild inflammation due to sun burns, bug bites, redness from hair waxing or minor abrasions, this salve is soothing on the affected area. I used this one all summer after I came in from the sun to re-moisturize and reduce any damage I may have incurred by the sun. It also calmed the irritation inflicted after I tended to my vanity and waxed my under arms! With a few simple ingredients and 3 anti-inflammatory essential oils, you can have this DYI salve ready for your summer medicine kit!

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 2 tbsp infused arnica, St. John’s Wort oil, or calendula oil, or a blend
  • 1 tbsp beeswax, grated, shaved or in pellets
  • 3 ml chamomile essential oil, 10% diluted
  • 1 ml pure lavender essential oil (about 25 drops)
  • 1 ml pure frankincense essential oil (about 25 drops)
  • Small glass jar or container that can hold about 100 ml of volume

Directions:

  • In a small double boiler, mix shea butter, carrier oil and beeswax until the beeswax is completely melted.
  • Remove from heat and whisk in essential oils.
  • Carefully and quickly transfer mix into jar. Place in the fridge to set.
  • Massage into sun burns, irritated skin, bug bites and abrasions when needed.
  • Store in a dry, cool place.

*Note: If you are concerned about allergies or skin irritation to the essential oils, take a small amount and do a patch test on your skin before using to see if there is any reaction.
